I actually purchased this item as a holiday gift. I recently helped set it up for my aunt this weekend and there were a couple of confusing things. At first, it says on the box that she is entitled to lifetime map updates, however on the instructions it says that you are only entitled to one map update and you must register before the first 60 days of using the satellite, and you can’t register by phone. What a headache. So we did it online and I hope it works well. I guess we’ll know later.

As I tried to download the map updates the software stayed at 99.9% for well over an hour. I cancelled it, so I’m unsure whether or not it’s totally up to date, but I guess we will see with time on this one, too.

The touch screen works okay, but sometimes it will select the next button over (ie: I clearly press “l” but it will select “k”).

In terms of use, my car’s GPS works from the street address on up while this works backwards from the state to the city on down. I know that a lot of GPS systems work that way, but it is an adjustment if you’re used to doing it the other way.

The auto complete function for streets worries me, but so far it’s accurate. For instance, She may want to go to Pinebrook Road SE, but the display option will show on one line : (Pinebrook – Road SE, Court) meaning that there are two possible roads. It will automatically choose the road for you which is a little worrisome in the event that you may want to selected the other road instead.

Overall it is a nice unit for the price. I’m not sure how long the mount will last since it’s the suction kind, which wears out on my other products.

This definitely seems like a device where I will be updating my Amazon review over time. It’s a tentative 4 for now.
